white and black wooden quote board

Have you ever had a brilliant business idea? One you just know could work, but months go by and you are still broke? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In fact, this is the story of millions. But today, I’m going to break down why that happened and, more importantly, what you can do to change it starting right now.

Welcome back to Bash1Talks, where we break down how to make money smartly, especially through agribusiness and strategies. I’ve seen many with great ideas, they are still broke. Why? Ideas don’t pay the bills. Execution does.

The Roadblocks to Execution

People get high off their own business ideas. They fantasize, they plan, they even pray and fast. But when it’s time to take the first small step, they freeze. That’s where the problem starts.

1. Waiting for the “Big Start”

They want ₦2 million startup capital before doing anything. They wait for their uncle to send money. They forget that many big businesses started with doing what you can with what you have. Start small, start rough, but just go ahead and start.

2. The Fear of Shame

There’s another issue: the fear of shame. “What will people say?” A lot of people are broke because they’re afraid to start small in public. They don’t want to sell fish. They don’t want to run errands. They don’t want to sell palm oil because it doesn’t look “big man” enough. They are too proud to be seen doing small business, forgetting that big businesses were once small. Being broke with pride is a terrible combination. You better be humble and free than proud and broke.

3. Waiting for the Perfect Partner or Big Break

How many people do you know who have been talking about a business they want to do with a friend? Five years later, “How far? How market? You don’t start?” They are still waiting for that friend to be ready. You don’t need a full team before you move. You don’t need all the tools. You just need to start. Others will join you when they see that you are moving. You are already ahead in the game of your business. (You can also watch my video on partnerships, why they mostly fail).

4. Overthinking and Underperforming

Some are PhD-level planners but are small-time kindergarten-level doers. They research every day. They watch every video. They take every single course they can find online. They download 20 PDFs every day. My advice: Do 20% planning, 80% execution.

5. Lack of Consistency

Finally, lack of consistency kills results. Some people start something today, and if they don’t “blow” in two weeks, they quit. Some will start selling sesame seeds; a little negative price change in one week, they jump to dry fish. This applies to practically everything in social media. Some people open a TikTok page. They don’t get likes in three days. They delete it. From there, they jump to Forex, then to YouTube, then to POS. They keep jumping, never staying long enough for one thing to pay them. The money is in consistency and not confusion.

The Path to Success

Good ideas are nice, but what matters is:

  • Can you execute even when nobody is clapping for you?
  • Can you stay consistent even when the money is not showing yet?
  • Can you push when your environment is not encouraging at all?

That’s what separates the broke from the bold.
